IdeaSmiths was founded by Bryan Gladstone in 1999 to invigorate client businesses and public service organisations through inspirational organisational and business development interventions.  Since then new partners have joined but the values have remained the same, to help companies become better places to work in and work with.

A management all-rounder with a strong academic and consultancy background, Bryan combines management strategy, knowledge management and organisational development expertise with long senior managerial experience in both the public and private sectors. Bryan has twenty years of experience designing and delivering management and leadership education. He was a member of the expert panel set up to advise the Cabinet Office on knowledge sharing in government and led the team that created the first accredited European MSc course in Knowledge Management for Sheffield Business School. He has designed and delivered high level management learning modules across Europe and Asia on Creativity and Innovation, Change Management and Knowledge Management. Bryan is particularly skilful in facilitating strategic collaboration and partnerships between organisations, developing visions, strategies and joint working relations. [
Ian is a professionally qualified and accredited business psychologist with nearly 20 years experience working as a consultant in the public and private sectors. His strengths are in people change management, change agent coaching, culture change, individual and organisational development, flexible working, team working (including virtual teams) and design of customer services and the user experience. He is committed to ensuring that change is something which is done with people and not to them.
Adrian is a highly adaptable organisational and personal change practitioner. He has experience in diverse private, public and third sector environments, both in the UK and overseas. Over many years he has undertaken a wide variety of roles including Management Consultant, Facilitator, Change Manager, Project Leader, Executive Coach as well as Mentor to change leaders and entrepreneurs. Adrian also teaches in the Sheffield Business School and has a strong interest in messy, emergent change programmes and organisational culture.
Zulfi is an international speaker and expert learning practitioner in the areas of the Inspirational Leadership, Executive Coaching & Mentoring, Equality & Diversity and Social Enterprise. Zulfi has a strong business & commercial focus with significant experience of developing effective long term strategic client and supplier relationships, providing consultancy, and working with people at all levels, across the UK, Europe, USA, China, India, and Pakistan. Zulfi is one of the co-founders and a former Chair of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC UK) Board. He writes regularly on social inclusion, coaching and mentoring, equality & diversity, and inspiration leadership.
With over 22 years’ experience as a learning and development consultant and Health & Safety practitioner and, David has gained expertise in working with staff and management at all levels, within various industrial disciplines.His entrepreneurial ability and insightful understanding organisational learning enable him to work closely with customers in the co-development of business solutions and learning programmes that create the elusive competitive edge within a robust market place. He is responsible for the strategic leadership of a dynamic team of staff and associates that design and deliver cutting edge learning programmes to customers with high expectations and tight commercial budgets.
Mark is an organisational and development consultant, with extensive experience over the past 15 years working with organisations to deliver of personal, team and organisational change and development programmes.Mark brings 28 years experience in the public sector as a senior manager (including as a Chief Executive) leading the implementation of innovation and change. He has worked at operational, regional and national level, predominately in the NHS, but also in Social Care and Education organisations and recently in the private sector. He specialises in the application of service improvement and transformational models. His experience also includes the implementation of performance frameworks across a wide range of programmes.
Kathy has wide business experience at senior level working in commercial roles with organisations such as Boots, Marks and Spencer and L’Oreal. She is now an experienced Chartered Occupational Psychologist and accredited business coach with the European Mentoring Coaching Council. One of Kathy’s specialisms is the facilitation of boards and senior teams supporting them in identifying and recognising where the individual and the team add value and where they need to change to do so. Kathy is also passionate about the effectiveness of one-one coaching, both on individual and organisational performance. Her experience of both sides of the board table gives her real insight into the challenges faced by senior executives.
A refugee from the advertising industry (Saatchi & Satchi, Bates UK and 141 Worldwide), Simon is a creative organisational change consultant who uses techniques from improvisational theatre, combined with extensive work with Desmond Morris (author of The Naked Ape and The Human Zoo). He has studied improvisational comedy with leading American and European theatres and combined these approaches with an anthropological approach to consulting.Simon has a special interest in changing behaviour in audiences. This stems from his background in communications and extends through his work in event design, training, and business strategy.
Rachel Hawley has over 25 years experience of working with a wide range of organisations in the health sector at local, regional, national and European levels, where patient, public and learner involvement has extensively underpinned her experience. She is experienced in managing high profile national projects, skilled in providing expert consultancy, leading organisational and cultural change in complex organisations with a proven track record working through ambiguity to develop and translate national policy to local goals and practice.
Robert is experienced in the various aspects of organisational change, particularly working with groups and individuals to understand the opportunities and impact of change. Areas of specialist knowledge include: the formulation and implementation of Government policy, corporate strategy and planning, management control within organisational change, occupational health and safety and public sector compliance. A common thread through much of his work is making sense of ambiguity and conflict. This includes the impact of newly introduced legislation and government policy; mergers between organisations, and the workings of multi-disciplinary groups. These experiences were a major influence on his doctorate in the topical area of healthcare policy making and the unpredictable and paradoxical impact it has on the front line staff practice. Areas explored in his thesis include the often unexamined implications of a scientific systems based approach to change and the impact this has on people.
A creative change facilitator, Toby has over 10 years experience as a learning, change and organisational development consultant. He is expert in the design, facilitation and evaluation of creative and inspiring leadership and organisational change programmes, conferences and events, with particular focus on learning transfer. His current study includes gaining a deeper insights into harnessing organisational learning, systemic thinking and collective intelligence. Other recent study includes “wicked” or fuzzy problem solving – developing collaborative techniques to help organisations and communities deal with their hardest problems, including: presencing, problem analysis, rich pictures and collaborative techniques such as World Café and Open Space. Toby has advanced skills in the design and implementation of measurement and evaluation projects. He combines this with data analysis and sense-making skills and the ability to write comprehensive client reports, ensuring that the emerging messages are clearly communicated.
